Don’t worry if you are in any way unsure about how to choose which lenses are the right ones for you.

I’ll always advise you over the phone regarding which lenses are best suited to your own individual prescription, as well as answer any queries you might have about any particular lenses. Below is a rough guide to help work out the cost of the new lenses.

Service Above and Beyond Being a varifocal virgin my needs were several but Catherine provided out of the ordinary help, advice and a quality product all at her super price – I’ll be back.

Many thanks again

Harry

Exceptional Personal Services I’ve just rec’d a pair of varifocal glasses from Catherine. I did not get this level of service from my high street optition. They would not provide the PD measurement but Catherine talked me through the process and the results are perfect. I had tried an online ‘factory’ reglaze company but after 3 phone calls and an email and still not having the full picture I was about to give up when I found this site. I couldn’t be more pleased. Catherine drove 15 miles to ensure my glasses were completed and with me in time for a wedding. That’s a brilliant service.

Do you need standard lenses, thin lenses or extra thin lenses –

and what’s the difference?

Generally speaking the stronger your prescription the thicker and heavier the lenses will be. Therefore standard lenses with a strong prescription could be very thick and unsightly. Looking at your optical prescription can give you a basic guide to choosing your lenses. Look at the Sphere box (Sph) on your prescription, then look at the Cylinder box (Cyl), taking the +/- into account, add these numbers together.

eg: -2.25 Sph added to  -1.00 Cyl = -3.25    or    -2.00 Sph added to +1.25 Cyl = -0.75

If the Sph and Cyl total over 4 then thinner lenses need to be used as the lenses will be fairly thick.

eg: +2.75 Sph added to +1.50 = +4.25

Prescriptions can look very confusing, so don’t worry if this all sounds too much to take in. This is purely a guide.

Rest assured I will always be choosing the lenses for you, but you can call me on 01253 795523 and I’ll explain what it all means.

Deep and Shallow Frames for Varifocal Lenses

The other consideration with varifocal lenses is the size of the frame. I’d normally advise to get a frame with a depth of at least 30mm to give space for good distance, reading and middle distance prescriptions. Shallow frames (about 25mm) can still be used but the varifocal lenses will need to be adapted for this.

The distance (top) and reading areas (bottom) will still be as good as ever, but the middle distance which is for computer use etc will be a little smaller in depth. This means there will be a smaller area of lens to see a computer screen through etc. These are called Compact Varifocal Lenses and have an additional £10 cost as they have to be specially made to fit into smaller frames.

If your frame is shallow, but is also a half rim frame, I can add a couple of mm to the depth of the lenses. This is really useful if your frame is shallow but you would like full varifocal lenses for computer use etc. This will alter the look of the lenses slightly, but give a good middle distance area to the lenses, improving middle vision.

I have done this very successfully on many occasions, so it isn’t a problem to do. There is no extra charge for this service. (This can only be done on a half rim or rimless frame, never on a full rimmed frame)

Superb Service

I have had my new varifocal glasses for about two weeks and am highly impressed with both the quality of the lenses and the service from Catherine. She was able to put new lenses into an old pair of very lighly used distance frames which I was keen to keep. Absolutely no problem. I now have a pair of top of the range transitions varifocal specs for half the price of a new pair from the High Street. Many thanks Catherine, I’ll be back for more soon.

Wonderful Personal Service Having had a bad previous experience using an Internet reglaazing service I was a little aprehensive about going down the same route again. I should not have worried as having discovered Catherine Ibberson’s website, it was obvious that here was someone who was passionate about providing a service that was personal, efficient and very good value for money.

After emailing Catherine I had a call from her to discuss my prescription, this was immediately followed by me receiving a pack to send off my old specs. I was kept up t o date with how my order was progressing and I received back my reglazed varifocal glasses within a week. Fantastic service and the glasses are as good as new, as the frames have also been given the reconditioning treatment

.
I cannot recommend this provider highly enough, and will certainly be using her every time from now on. For anyone dubious about using Internet reglazing, and rightly so as there are some terrible companies out there. Look no further than Catherine Ibberson’s Reglazeglasses4u

Premium Wide Vision Varifocal Lenses

My excellent varifocal lenses have proved to be of world class quality, and are by far our most popular lenses. They are designed to be flatter and slimmer resulting in comfortable, functional viewing in all areas of the lenses. The soft progression from top to bottom ensures easy adaptation and eliminates any refocusing issues that can be a problem with some other lenses.

The design of the lenses utilizes the most advanced technology to give a wider, clearer field of vision. The very soft design of the lenses has made the change from top branded lenses like Zeiss and Essilor to ours very successful for many of our customers.

(See my testimonials from my varifocal wearers, they are all very happy with their lenses)

I do not supply the very basic design of varifocal lenses that are readily available on the market as my primary aim is to give excellent vision. The very basic varifocal lenses often cause uncomfortable amounts of peripheral distortion and a poor standard of vision all around.

Using a computer with them or playing sports like golf are virtually impossible. Sadly, I’ve seen lots of people after they have already tried these poor quality lenses, and have either suffered poor vision as long as they could stand it, or they have wasted their money and their glasses sit in a drawer unworn.

I often tell people that my lenses aren’t the cheapest on the market, and for £10 or £20 less  they can get the cheap very basic varifocal lenses. I also add though, that as far as the different qualities of varifocal lenses goes, the saying “You get what you pay for”  rings very true.

Generally speaking, the better quality your varifocal lenses are, the clearer, and more comfortable your vision will be.

I strongly advise to buy the best varifocal lenses that your budget can stretch to, it really does make a big difference to your vision, and the general comfort of your eyes. My prices for Essilor Varilux Lenses are very competative compared to the high street, also making them a very popular choice.

I Recommend That You Choose

Tick pngA standard lens (1.5) if your combined prescription value is less than 3.00 (plus or minus) – not suitable for rimless frames

Tick pngA thin lens (1.6) if your combined prescription value is between 3.00 and 5.00 (plus or minus) – suitable for all frames including rimless

Tick pngAn extra thin lens (1.67) if your combined prescription value is 6.00 or over (plus or minus) – suitable for all frames including rimless

Tick pngSuper thin lens (1.74) if your combined prescription value is 8.00 or over (plus or minus) – Note: not all lenses are available in 1.74 – and are not always suitable for rimless frames

These are only flexible recommendations. Once I have seen your frame I will advise on the very best lenses suitable for your prescription, taking into account the size and shape of your frame.
